The Ab Initio Course is designed for students who have no prior knowledge of Spanish. Aims: To develop students’ ability to communicate in speech and writing so that they can deal adequately with everyday situations and cope with familiar and practical needs. To encourage awareness of the cultures of both Spain and Latin America. To learn grammatical structures in context through oral materials and written texts ina variety of different styles. The topics: Food and drink Health and emergency situations Leisure and travel The environment Education and work Types of texts and material: The course will include texts from the press and spoken texts including songs, films and interviews. Students will be encouraged to keep a portafolio of their work. Throughout the course the aim is to use the target language at all times.
